Urban Observation of the Week: Turkey Vulture

Now that we are still in pandemic mode, more organisms that we might not normally see in urban areas are popping up on our social distanced walks. Here we see a flock of turkey vultures in Erindale Park, hanging out near the recycling bins. You’ll want to practice more than the 6 feet of social distancing with these birds. They defend themselves by throwing up and can projectile vomit up to 10 feet!

Thank you Marc Johnson for this great observation!

Do you have a photo or video of an urban species doing something unusual? What about a rare plant or animal that you were surprised to find in a city? If so, let Lindsay know or Tweet at us and you could be featured as a future observation of the week!
