Nutrient-loading

Refers to the quantity of nutrients entering an ecosystem. Excess loading of nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorous, into aquatic ecosystems can cause harmful algal blooms. Decaying algae absorb dissolved oxygen from water leading to low oxygen levels in nutrient-rich systems.
